While debate continues as to where we stand in relation to the COVID pandemic, needless to say, clinical laboratory leaders are focusing on how best to move forward in service to patients and providers. In wrapping up the calendar year, I remain most heartened by the fact that the substantial challenges of the last few years have not stopped engaged, compassionate, and skilled laboratory directors and managers from pushing forward with successful process improvements.

As a sample of the diverse and impressive progress made by your colleagues, we are proud to present this year’s most popular articles (determined by online views):

Tips to Fight Rising Costs in the Laboratory (June)
By Tyler Radke, MLS(ASCP)

Impact of the Pandemic on Laboratory Design (May)
By Debbie Phillips, AIA, ACHA, EDAC

Boost QA with a Phlebotomy Auditing System (April)
By Tyler Radke, MLS(ASCP), and Leah Borchardt, MLS(ASCP)

Priming Clinical Laboratories for the VALID Act (May)
By Julianne Rees, MSHS, and Shannon Bennett, MS, MBA, CMQ/OE(ASQ)

Benefit from Automation and AI in Microbiology (March)
By Jacqueline Getty, MLS(ASCP)

As 2023 eases onto the horizon, we aim to share laboratories’ positive growth through staffing, technology, and methodology improvements, under the experienced aegis of tested lab leaders. In doing so, it has been an honor to work with several new and established laboratory leaders this year (presented as a group on page 6). The staff of MLM looks forward to more insightful contributions in the year to come and we hope to serve your information needs.

With kind regards and best wishes for the new year,

David McCormick
